Pinestock update: The JEC has spoken, let them eat Cake
March 29th, 2007 by Sabrina Walterby Sabrina Walter
The headlining band for Pinestock 2007 was officially announced following Friday’s Battle of the Bands. Students can look forward to viewing Cake at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 on Watab Island.
The Joint Events Council selected Cake based upon student votes previously submitted via e-mail as well as the JEC’s financial abilities.
“Due to pricing, we couldn’t afford our No. 1 choice, and Cake was our second choice,” JEC Concerts Chair AJ Saigh said.
Cake, a band famous for singles such as “The Distance,” “Never There,” and “Short Skirt/Long Jacket,” formed in 1991 in Sacramento, Calif. Cake is generally classified as alternative; however the band stresses its eclectic mix of genres including funk, ska, pop, jazz, rap and country. The band has built a large fan base and popularity due to its live performances and positive word-of-mouth.
Saigh remarked that the JEC has negotiated to bring the beer garden back for the second year in a row.
“We want people to know about it since last year was the first year,” Saigh said.
Saigh hopes that students will enjoy the garden and also respect its presence since the JEC must consult for the garden annually.
“We want students to have fun and be responsible so the beer garden can be brought back,” Saigh said.
CSB/SJU can look forward to attending Pinestock and experiencing Cake as well as Battle of the Bands winner Wagon Wheels. Dates for ticket sales are yet to be determined.
