We are at the end of yet another school year. Looking at the wistful good-byes to CSB/SJU and the excitement for what the future will bring, The Record offers advice to students. Seniors, good luck with all that comes next. Returning students, have a wonderful summer we’ll see you next year.
To the first years: Your sophomore year is an excellent time to explore all of the opportunities available at CSB/SJU. Do not be afraid to leave your comfort zone and seek experiences that will enrich not only your years at college but also the rest of your life. Consider studying abroad. Even a short May term program can enlighten your global perspective and have an amazing impact on your education. Be conscious of the next few years; plan carefully and make the most of your time in this amazing college community.
To the sophomores: Your college career is halfway done. Perhaps you’re at a crossroads, or perhaps you’re happily progressing toward accomplishing the plans of long ago. You can look to the time ahead, full of unforeseen challenges and unforeseen fun, semesters abroad and a critical stage for academic performance, all with the grace of experience. Above all, be sure to stop, breathe and take it all in, lest the next two years pass in the blink of an eye.
To the juniors: For many of you, the past three years have flown by. Next year will go by just as fast, if not faster. So, between the senior thesis projects, endless job searches and planning for the next stages of your lives, stop to appreciate the current stage. Put aside your homework for a night to have coffee with an old friend. Make the most of that perfect September day by lounging on the banks of Lake Sag. Go to the bar with your (finally) real ID and dance with your friends to Piano Man. Experience your senior year to the fullest.
To the graduating seniors: You have experienced many changes in the last four years. Remember to enjoy your last moments around campus. Stop and spend a minute taking in the scenery while you rush to finish final projects, thesis papers or internships. Do something that you never got to do in the time you’ve been here that you have wanted to do, such as canoe to the chapel, attend a prayer service, play outdoors or just enjoy the company of old friends. Also, remember in the future to come back and visit what you have left behind and make sure to never forget those moments at CSB/SJU.
