The St. Ben’s Senate passed a motion to create a budget committee to discuss funding for the cable TV bill for 2008-09.

In the past, the Senate has paid about $6,000 for lower-end cable, and the question remains as to who could cover part of that bill in the upcoming years.

According to a Senate survey, students would prefer Residential Life to fund part of the bill. Senate Public Relations Representative Marnie Anderson said the Senate will issue a written report on the issue by Tuesday.

Senators “Storm the Dorms”

The Senate also proposed a new program called “Storm the Dorms” in which senators interact directly with CSB students. “This is a new program created by the Senate in order to create personal relationships between the senate and the students, ” Anderson said. “So before Thanksgiving, the senators will storm the dorms between 7-9 p.m. with a little gift and some contact information with some more information on the Senate, so each student has a personal senator. We want them to feel comfortable asking us questions and approaching us with their concerns so we can address them with our full attention. ”

Ticket discounts for Blazers fans

After several minutes of deliberation, the Senate adjourned a private executive session and passed a motion to allocate $300 to the Blazers volleyball and soccer teams.

“The money will be used for admissions fees for students, which would have been $3, ” Anderson said after the meeting. She added the Athletic Department will decide on whether to allow the first 200 students to be let in free.

Ultimately, the Senate hopes to boost student attendance at soccer and volleyball games, she said.
