Artist Statement (Meghan Mahoney)

These pillows are going to be a part of a larger installation for the spring senior show. I am planning on designing bedding in the same theme as the pillows, which is sex and things related to it. On the pillows are condoms, birth control and other images of sex. I like to make things that are unexpected and are conversation starters. I also like hands on projects. I like art that an audience can play with and touch, tactile things. I do not make your typical “please don’t touch” type of art.

Nomination

I’ve known Meghan a long time, and I admire her for choosing to tackle complex subject matter. Using photography, computer art, and installation, her work expresses something that is uniquely Meghan and Meghan only. Out of respect and admiration towards her intense passion for art, I earnestly wish to nominate Meghan Mahoney for Artist of the week.
