Send us your love … or just your ideas

It’s Valentine’s Day — a day which all of us single, hopeless romantics endure bitterly.
But I’m abandoning my resentment for singledom and trying out a new approach of optimism that I think can be applied to more than my incurable relationship status.
Like all seniors, I’m confident these last three months of college will be memorable. I’m hopeful I’ll get a job … despite going into an unstable, unprofitable industry. And I’m optimistic that you’ll want to read and be a part of The Record during our remaining seven issues.
The Record hasn’t had the best of luck so far this year, but this semester has the promise of being a good one.
We’re catching up with the rest of CSB/SJU and upgrading our obsolete, outdated equipment thanks to the support from a couple organizations on campus, notably St. Ben’s Student Development.
Our computers are the oldest on campus — not good for producing a product dependent on efficient computer programs.
We’re welcoming new staff to our team, with 12 new editors this semester (out of 18), who are passionate and full of new ideas on how to continue to raise the bar on the quality of your paper.
And most importantly, we’re including you.
We’re answering your questions (Campus Questions in news). We’re profiling your life (”Your Story” in variety). We’re featuring your talent (”Artist of the Week” in variety). We’re listening to your complaints or comments (letters to the editor in opinion).
And, in light of Valentine’s Day, we’re unveiling our first “Dear Dustin” column today by our new columnist, sophomore Dustin Bentley, to answer your questions about relationships.
We go to two small schools so I don’t think it’s too lofty to promise to work to ensure that all 3,928 of you are featured somewhere at some point in The Record before you leave here.
So send us your questions. Give us your story suggestions. Tell us your stories. Voice your opinions.
And for the tech-savvy, or even tech-illiterate like myself, go online at www.csbsju.edu/record and post a comment about an article.
Web sites are becoming more and more important for connecting people, and that’s exactly what we hope to do with our remodeled and renovated site.
On that note, maybe that’s a sign for all of us single folk to resort to online dating soon …

Record? Give me your feedback by e-mailing me at kmsmith@csbsju.edu.
