Passionate politics spark love, debate
April 24th, 2008 by Tan Tuohy
Dear Dustin,
The election year is ruining my love life! In short, the Johnnie I have my eye on is a liberal Obama-lover, while I am a McCain fan. However, we are compatible in tons of other aspects. How can I make him see past our political differences and convince him that we would be perfect for each other?
Thanks,

Dear RRAPL,
I’m sorry to inform you, but I just don’t think you’re good enough for him. Let’s be honest. A McCain fan would only be dragging him down. You would only hold him back from reaching his full potential.
Kidding aside, this is a simple situation. I don’t think any two people are exactly the same. Every couple has to deal with something that they can’t see eye to eye on. Take my girlfriend and me for example: She thinks that flower shirts aren’t the pinnacle of a well-dressed man. I know better, but we still don’t exactly see things the same way in this situation. This is just one example of millions of situations where a couple deals with a
difference of opinion.
My advice to you would be to engage him in a political discussion. Keep it a discussion, not an argument. Since he is interested in politics, this should be an entertaining activity for him and for you. This should get him interested in you and be the start of a beautiful relationship. Then hopefully he can talk some sense into you and get you to vote Obama.
