Artist of the week:Bridget Blatzheim
May 1st, 2008 by Tan Tuohy
Nomination
Bridget is an extraordinary artist and person. She dedicates most of her time and energy to her work and manages to remain enthusiastic about her work and optimistic about things in general. Bridget is an extremely creative person in the sense that she generates very original ideas and executes them in her own individual way. She recently began working more with clay as a medium, and her most recent ceramic work is very inspiring. I am always excited to see what she’ll come up with next.

Artist Statement
When I was about six years old, my aunt asked me, “What kind of dessert do you want?” Unable to make a decision I
answered, “Can I have each of everything?” I still have not been able to choose one medium. I am exploring everything. For me, the excitement of creating art comes from the experimentation and combination of different mediums and techniques. I study to become an art teacher. Art education is a hands-on style of learning. It provides an opportunity for me to explore, develop and display art with people young and old. I dream of being a glass blower. I love to create and design jewelry with the glass beads I make. A passion for ceramics has also arisen during my hours working as a kiln assistant. Pottery, since it is functional, is a great way to place art into everyday life. The most recent artistic discovery I’ve found is the world of book making. I adore it because the books can be sculptures,
include painting, drawing, text and probably even beads. Never-ending possibilities.
