The Record

A few weeks ago, The Record offered students the opportunity to receive a free makeover. Students could apply by e-mail with a brief description of themselves and why they qualified for a makeover.

After sifting through numerous applications, The Record staff chose CSB junior Danielle Delwiche for her enthusiasm and sincerity.

Delwiche applied for the makeover because personal issues and a busy schedule left her with very little time for herself.

"I really just kept putting myself on the back burner, and finally I realized that not taking care of myself was just making the stress worse and more overwhelming," Delwiche said via e-mail.

"I [thought that] a makeover would be great for me to get me back into the mode of the strong, friendly woman I really am."

Delwiche described her everyday look of jeans, a hoodie and a ponytail as casual, bland and lazy. She often doesn't have enough time or energy in the morning to put more effort into her outfit, hair and make-up.

"I roll out of bed at the last possible minute, take a shower, throw my hair up and go," Delwiche said.

Delwiche wanted to even out her hair color and get some mature and feminine clothing to supplement her wardrobe, which she described as "seriously lacking."

The Record accompanied her Tuesday to the St. Cloud Regency Beauty Institute for a hair and make-up appointment.

Hair

Delwiche wanted to fix her half grown-out blond highlights, so after much deliberation with her stylist, Jana Ahren, she decided to get rich brown lowlights and honey-blond highlights.

The foiling process took almost two and a half hours, during which Delwiche flipped through magazines and chatted with Ahren.

After the color application, Ahren cut layers into Delwiche's medium length hair. Ahren then blew-dry Delwiche's freshly cut hair into a peppy, flipped out style.

Make-up

After her hair was done, Delwiche received a make-up application.

Ahren applied a light foundation to Delwiche's round-shaped face, followed by powder and a rose-colored blush.

She then lined Delwiche's eyes with a smoky black eyeliner and applied a golden, shimmery eyeshadow. Black mascara followed, enhancing Delwiche's long lashes. Lip liner, a light plum colored lipstick and sheer gloss completed the look.

Wardrobe

After more than three hours at the salon, the next stop was Old Navy to find stylish, comfortable and affordable clothes.

Delwiche wanted a casual yet dressy outfit that she could wear to class.

The selection proved more than adequate, and Delwiche quickly had a large pile of pants, sweaters and jeweled tank tops. She headed off to the fitting rooms to start the most exciting part of the night: trying on new clothes.

Three outfits and 20 minutes later, Delwiche chose a new pair of jeans, a gray cowl-neck, cable-knit sweater and a black tank top with embellished straps. Sequined shoes completed the outfit.

A new look

Delwiche's new outfit combined with her fresh hairstyle and subtle makeup gave her a more sophisticated look.

Trying out her new look Wednesday brought positive comments from friends.

"I had a great time," Delwiche said via e-mail. "All the reactions I've gotten have been wonderful, and I feel great."
