Winter storm strands students

The Record

Many students were stranded earlier this week when a winter storm producing rain, snow and strong winds bombarded parts of Minnesota and North Dakota.

CSB senior Emily Stenberg was one of them. Stenberg is from Greenbush, Minn., which is located in the northwest corner of the state, about 20 miles from the Canadian border.

"I left my hometown on Sunday morning . . . and I ended up sliding into a mailbox in Mahnomen, Minn., which is about three hours north of St. Cloud, and realized that I couldn't go any further because of the ice," Stenberg said.

Stenberg was welcomed into the home of the people whose mailbox she struck, and was able to stay there both Sunday and Monday nights.

CSB senior Lindsey Wolf was also forced to wait out the winter storm.

Wolf was almost half way back to school from her home in Bismarck, N.D., when the weather forced her to stop in Fargo.

"Once I got to Fargo, it was extremely slippery and there were many cars in the ditch," Wolf said. "Luckily I was able to stay with my aunt there."

Both students were forced to miss two days of class, which can be especially troubling this late in the semester.

"I missed a quiz and a test, but all of my professors were really understanding," Wolf said. "All of them just wanted to make sure that I was able to get back safely."
