"Die Gedanken sind frei" means, "Thoughts are free." The song itself is very old, going back to the Peasant Wars of sixteenth-century Germany. In times of oppression, it has risen again. It was the song of the White Rose movement in Nazi Germany. The tune and the German lyrics are in the public domain worldwide. I am sorry that I cannot furnish an English translation: the singable English version that I know is still under copyright.
