The two songs most commonly set to this tune are "What Child Is This" and--of course--"Greensleeves&.#34;

The tune is English, and from the sixteenth century at the latest. In 1596 "Greensleeves" is mentioned as a dance, and Shakespeare also refers to "Greensleeves" as a tune in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Act II, Scene I, and Act V, Scene V.
