Most organists play this loud and try to make it awe-inspiring to the point of being oppressive. Think scary horror movie music, lots of bass. It's tough to sound majestic on the mandolin, though, so aim for "haunting."
Some churches use this tune for their communion services. You might also consider it for Advent and Christmas. There is a splendid version of this song on the Miserable Offenders' album Keepin' the Baby Awake.
