St. Dominic would stand before the altar, rapt in contemplation. Sometimes he would hold his hands out in front, as if reading a book. It was as if he were reciting the words of God, with great sweetness and delight, in the presence of God.
Other times, he joined his hands, holding them together in front. Other times he lifted them to his shoulders, as if listening more intently. He seemed like a prophet conversing with an angel or even with God, now talking, now listening, now thinking quietly about what had been said.
