Lab and Attendance Policy

The laboratory component of this course is absolutely essential for learning the material in this course. Unlike earlier classes in our curriculum, there is no regular laboratory period. You must complete the projects on your own outside of class. (Of course, I will be available to help during my regular office hours and any other time you can catch me.) Assignments MUST BE TURNED IN ON TIME. Late assignments will be penalized at a rate of 10% per day late (weekends count 20%).  Valid excuses for late labs mean things like documented personal illness and documented illness or death in your family. If you will be absent because of school activities like varsity athletic events - NOT practices - or other performances, ... you must talk to me to arrange how to get the lab in.

You must have a passing grade in the laboratory portion of the class to pass the class. Thus an F in the laboratory component and an A in everything else is an F.

Attendance in class is also mandatory. Thus, 3 unexcused absences means loss of one half grade, 6 means loss of a full grade, and 7 or more means failure. Note that his is a loss of grade IN ADDITION TO ANY LOSS ALREADY OCCURING BECAUSE OF ASSIGNMENTS NOT FINISHED OR QUIZZES MISSED. Put another way, you are required to turn in the work you missed in any circumstances and if you both miss a class and also do not make up assignments, quizzes, ... because of that absence, you will be penalized twice.
