FOURIER-TRANSFORM INFRA-RED SPECTROPHOTOMETRY (FT-IR)
Chemistry Department
College of Saint Benedict/
Saint John's University
A tool used extensively by organic students is infra-red
analysis. The Chemistry Department has two FT-IR instruments; a
Mattson Galaxy 3000 and a Galaxy 5000. These instruments are used
extensively in the sophomore year by students in the organic labs,
with one of the instruments actually located directly in the organic
lab Galaxy 3000 . The
Galaxy 5000 is used both in the undergraduate lab and as a research
instrument and is housed in one of the instrument rooms.
