GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY (GC)
Chemistry Department
College of Saint Benedict/
Saint John's University
Gas chromatography is for materials that can be easily
converted to a gas, what HPLC is to materials that are dissolved in
some kind of solvent. GC can be used to separate very complex
mixtures of volatile compounds into the individual components. This
technique is used extensively through out our program with the
organic chemistry lab having three systems in the lab and a
HP-5880 GC in one of the instrument
rooms.
