Advertising Rates and Policies 2004-2005

The Newspaper

Founded in 1887, The Record is the official student newspaper for the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University. Currently, the combined enrollment is nearly 4,000 students; The Record circulates throughout the two institutions as well as through St. Joseph. Our readership includes nearly 5,000 people around Collegeville, St. Joseph, and throughout the state.

The Record is a four color, broadsheet newspaper printed at the St. Cloud Times.

Advertising Policies

The Record is published every Thursday throughout the academic year. The deadline for advertising requests is 5:00 p.m. on the Friday prior to the desired date of publication.

In accordance with our editorial policy, The Record does not accept advertising which degrades either sex; encourages the excessive use or abuse of alcohol; contains attacks of a sexist, racist, personal or religious nature; or may be confused with regular news material in appearance. The Record reserves the right to refuse to accept advertisements.

When deemed appropriate by the newspaper, ads may be marked as "Paid Advertisement."

Advertising Rates

The rates of an ad are determined by the size and extent of coloration of the ad. The Record has seven columns, each with a width of 1.5 inches and a 1.7 millimeter gutter between columns. Height is measured in inches.

1 column = 1.5 inches
2 columns = 3.2 inches
3 columns = 4.8 inches
4 columns = 6.5 inches
5 columns = 8.2 inches
6 columns = 9.8 inches
7 columns = 11.5 inches

Package Discounts

3-4 Ads = 5% discount
5-6 Ads = 10% discount
7 or more Ads = 15% discount

Packages must begin and end within an academic semester. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Advertising Consultants. Packages may be combined in any way in terms of color or size. At least half the price of a package deal must be pre-paid, the remainder may be paid up to two weeks after the last ad is published. On-campus groups are eligible for larger discount rates.

If an order for a package discount is canceled before the package is complete, the price will revert to the flat grid fee plus a $20.00 administrative fee retroactive for all ads in the order.

Building Ads

The Record will build ads for no additional charge. The client provides the text message of the ad as well as a detailed description and sketch of how the ad is to appear. The Record will create graphics or photographs to finish the ad.

Classifieds

The rate for classifieds is $7.00 for the first 25 words and $0.15 for each additional word. All classified advertisements must be pre-paid.

A "run-till-it-sells" option for classifieds selling personal items may be purchased for an additional $15. This type of classified will be printed until the item is reported sold or until the end of the semester, whichever comes first. It is the advertiser's responsibility to report a sold item.

The Record does not accept personal classifieds involving dating.

Placing An Ad

Please contact The Record office should you wish to place an ad no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Sunday prior to the desired date of publication. The Record is published weekly.

Ad rate cards are available by land mail, fax, or e-mail.

Advertisers are required to pre-pay until they have established credit with The Record. An advertiser will gain credit after placing and pre-paying for three ads.
