Kateri Roessler, a CSB graduate, has truly learned what it means to give and receive this past year.
She has spent time volunteering and teaching in Malawi, Africa.
"I have just finished a year of teaching English for business communications to secretarial students," Roessler said via e-mail. "I am about to move to a nearby village to work in a dispensary for the coming year."
Roessler has followed in the footsteps of her parents who have spent time volunteering in Zaire.
"Growing up, I heard stories from my mom and dad about their time in Zaire volunteering," Roessler said. "I learned service through example after example and it has always been very important to me."
While at St. Ben's, Roessler said she developed a calling to service through many activities she was involved with and inspiration from her peers.
"At St. Ben's I met many wonderful people and involved myself in many activities," she said.
From waterpolo, working as an resident assistant, to tutoring middle school students, Roessler said she was able to recognize her passion in helping others.
"Doing these [activities] allowed me to maintain my passion for helping others," Roessler said. "It served as
encouragement during my senior year to actually find an organization to volunteer abroad."
