Campus Ministry director says goodbye to public role
|
|
|
Fr. Bob Pierson, the director of Campus Ministry, is resigning from his position on Jan. 15.
He announced his resignation Wednesday night in an e-mail sent to faculty, students and administrators.
"Because I can no longer honestly represent, explain and defend the church's teaching on homosexuality, I feel I must resign," Pierson said in his e-mail.
The new Vatican document, released Nov. 29, will ban certain homosexuals from entering the priesthood.
"Knowing that there could be consequences, I decided to resign rather than to come out, criticize the document and stay in campus ministry," he said in an interview today.
Today many students and the monastic community voiced their support for Pierson.
"I am sad," said St. John's Abbot John Klassen. "I think he was doing an excellent job."

The first-year halls' improvements will include carpeting the rooms and upgrading lounges and electrical spaces. "Our room's power goes out like once a week," said Michael Putney, a Mary Hall resident. The improvements should reduce the number of blown fuses.

King dethrones opposing defenses
|
Patty King flies across the blue line during an afternoon practice at the Municipal Athletic Complex in St. Cloud. It's her speed that makes her impossible to catch and a threat down the ice. Besides fast feet, King knows the game. Together the combination has made King, a first-year forward for the Blazers, one of the most dangerous players on the team. In a 10-1 win over Concordia-Moorhead on Nov. 20, King scored four goals and had one assist, a second-period goal to junior Stephanie Kendrick.

Crosswords
What would Jesus do about finals? That is a question I would like to ask. It has been a few weeks and I hope this finds you well and prepping for your last week of classes. Last time I asked if it makes sense to pay attention to the saying "What Would Jesus Do?" The responses were split as always, but the reasons for the split peaked my interest. Those who said "No" have a lot of intriguing reasons.
